Question
Which of the following would one predict after a substantial carbohydrate meal? O Arterial plasma glucose concentration should fall. O Arterial plasma glucose concentration should remain unchanged. O Arterial plasma glucose concentration should rise. Check Which of the following statements is not correct? O After a meal about one third of the absorbed glucose is metabolized by the brain and red blood cells O After a meal about one third of the absorbed glucose is metabolized by the gut epithelial cells O After a meal about one third of the absorbed glucose is metabolized by the liver cells O After a meal about one third of the absorbed glucose is metabolized by the skeletal muscle and fat cellsExplanation / Answer
After a substantial carbohydrates meal the arterial plasma glucose level increases. Digestion of carbohydrates starts in the mouth itself and most of the digestion takes place in stomach. Thus the digested end product glucose reaches the blood leading to increase in blood plasma level of glucose. However raised level stimulates secretion of insulin which regulates glucose level in the blood and thus lowers the glucose level thereafter.
