Please answer ASAP

Answer the following questions in the space provided. Read each question carefully. Be specific and thorough in your answers. Incomplete or vague answers will be marked incorrect. You may use drawings/diagrams to complement your answers. (6 pts) Describe the two primary cellular abnormalities that are observed in the brain of someone who had Alzheimer's disease, which contribute to neurodegeneration. Describe how these abnormalities form. Be specific 1. (3 pts) Most modern models of attention incorporate both the early-selection and late- selection models of attention. To what do these models refer and how do they differ from each other? 2.

Explanation / Answer

Alzheimer's disease:

Chronic neuro degeneration of cerebral cortex is characteristic feature of Alzheimer's disease. Neurodegeneration leads to loss of neurons and synapses.

Parts to be affected in brain:

1) temporal lobe 2) parietal lobe 3) frontal cortex 4) cingulate gyrus.

CELLULAR LEVEL ABNORMALITIES:

Amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles are the cell level abnormalities present in cortical area of degenerated brain. Formation and presence of these components cause the cellular abnormalities.

i) Amyloid plaque-outside of neurons

Amyloid is one of the protein material and is normally produced by the body. Amyloid broken into beta amyloid. Usually beta amyloid broken again and eliminated from body.

But in Alzheimer's beta amyloid will not broken and accumulate in the brain to form hard and insoluble one. This one present in space between the neurons.

ii) Neurofibrillary tangles

This is present inside of the neurons. Neurofibrillary tangles are consists of Tau protein. Usually tau protein do transport the nutrients to the other parts of neurons. But in the Alzheimer's the transportation mechanism is lost.
