American/Western developmental psychology to Non-Western countries and cultures.
Your thoughts about the applicability of American/Western developmental psychology to Non-Western countries and cultures. Explain why it is important for developmental psychology to consider cross-cultural perspectives explaining human development.
Justify your post with specific examples and citations from the Learning Resources.
Explanation / Answer
Most psychological theories are intrinsically culture bound. Psychological theories developed in one culture may not automatically be generalizable to another culture and its people. Theories that are non culture specific could have a place in non western countries. For example, exposure therapy which is based on classical conditioning might be applied in non-western countries as the theory behind the therapy is instinctual rather than cognitive.
