Assignment Think of a person (real or hypothetical) who engages in (or fails to engage in) a specific behavior. Your assignment is to come up with an operant conditioning plan to change this person's behavior. In doing so, you should address the following questions: 1) Describe the behavior you would like to encourage (or discourage). (2 points) 2) Describe the operant conditioning plan you will employ to alter the behavior. Will you be using reinforcement, punishment, or both? Positive or negative? Why did you make these choices? (4 points) 3) How will you modify your plan if it does not produce sufficient results? (3 points) 4) What aspects of your plan will ensure that the behavior change you produce lasts for a long time? (3 points) You will be graded on both the creativity and the scientific merit of your proposal based on what you've learned about human learning. Your entire response should be about a paragraph in length.

Explanation / Answer

1. A student who is not doing well in his tests as he does not study for it so the behaviour to encourage would be to study harder so grades improve

2. A positive reinforcer can be added to encourge the child to study before a test. A positive reinforcer is a stimulus added to the environment that brings about an increase in a preceeding response. In this case the child can be given a special day out if he makes sure to study before a test and not waste the time. Or he could have extra tv time or free time once he finishes studying. If this still continues a punishment could be added which is a stimulus that decreases the probablility that a previous behaviour will occur again. Here he can have tv time taken out of his schedule or be made to stay at home when the others go out for a meal etc. Studying for a test is never easy and it is always harder to just sit and do it. Therefore a chid should not only be positively reinforced but also know that if they do ot do it they would have something taken away too hence knowing the importance of the task being asked to perform.

3. The child can be cheked as to if he prefers positively being reinforced or punishment and based on what he responds to that could be implemented more. For example if he he is more productive when he is promised more tv time after studying than if he is not allowed to go out if he does not study, tht behaviour can be enhanced. Which means that a chart can be made about his studying and everytime he studies enough extra time can be added on his chart which he can use on the weekends to binge watch tv.

4. The positive reinforcer must slowly be taken away to ensure that through the end of it he is ale to study well knowingthat he gets better reults and not extra time. Therefore the positive reinforcer must slowly be taken away to get the main stilmulus is place.
