Explanation / Answer

Hobbes was a believer of materialism. Mind and body are not seperate entities but are one whole unit. For him the working of human mind as well as body could be explained by interaction and motion of matter. Everything in the universe is mechanical and subject to cause and effects.

Descarates was a firm believer in thephilosophy of of dual mind - body existence.According to him mind and body are seperate entities as they are distinct in nature.Mind and body are independent , so even if the body dies, the inner mind and soul have the ability to live on.

So in reference to mind body existence Hobbes was a monist and Descartes was a dualist.

7.

e).both Hobbes and Descartes agreed that body is governed by mechanical motion and laws of the material world.
