Chapter 14
1. Janie and cup cake moved to Everglades in early september because cup cake got some money and he felt he will get work in everglades and a better life.
2. They plant beans, Tea Cake teaches Janie how to shoot a gun, and they go hunting together. At first, Janie stays at home and cooks glorious meals, but soon Tea Cake gets lonely and begins cutting work to see her. Janie then decides to join him in the fields so that they can be together all day.
3. The Everglades are filled with wild energy as the cheap bars pulse with music and revelry. People were status-obsessed who cannot appreciate the folksy pleasure of sitting. White culture was not to work and stay at home compared to black people who worked in fields. White were more status obsessed about working in the fields.
4. Tea Cake teaches Janie how to shoot a gun, and they go hunting together. She eventually develops into a better shot than he. Tea Cake’s house was center of the community, a place where people hang out and listen to him play music.
