Explanation / Answer

According to Erikson there are 8 stages of development each individual goes through one by one in order . The stage of identity vs identity confusion is in adolscence and followed by stage of intimacy vs isolation. According to erikson if an individual develops a sense of identity properly and is well aware of himself as a person then only he can lead to the next stage of intimacy . If a person has identity confusion and he does not know himself and is confused about his own self and identity he will never be able to satisfy his he partner later in life. This would result in isolation. Therefore in order to understand other person you have to first understand yourself and then try and understand other person.
