Explanation / Answer
Horror movies do evoke many negative emotions in the individuals while watching them, but the effects that it leaves on a person may vary due to the individual differences. There are three specific categories of "scares" which are as follows:
There have been several examples which has been covered under these three headings.
There can be long term effects on viewing of horror films in children as they can evoke fear in them. They can learn this vicariously and get scared with many things around them, similar sounds can scare them, darkness can also scare them. When talking with adults, I did come across some adults talking about their fears which have been related to their childhood experiences of watching horror movies but this was seen in a few individuals.
My personal experience with watching a horror movie has been fine as I did not get scared after watching the movie, while watching it there have been several scenes which sacred me but not after that. I do agree with the author's conclusion regarding the long term effects of viewing these horror movies but these cannot be generalized to a larger population.
