Answer: Being a psychologist myself I used to believe that hypnosis is an altered state of mind wherein one’s focus of attention is concentrated upon a limited set of event. The state is induced with the help of well-modulated suggestive communications where the hypnotists exhibit great confidence and authority. The process is facilitated is the subject of hypnosis gullible, anxiety prone, magical thinker etc. I also used to believe that state cannot be induced without the active cooperation of the subject. But I had never seen in my career any real demonstration of hypnosis that could convince me about the large claims of – subject loosing complete control upon his/her senses and blindly following the suggestions of hypnotists. Therefore, I was doubtful of induction of anaesthesia like solely with the use of hypnosis. I used to also believe that hypnosis is not negligible clinical significant because it can bring about very significant changes except helping some of patient to drop the social barriers due to relaxed stated induced through hypnosis.

After going through the website and also watching the vedio I come to believe that it can bring quite significant changes in one feeling (especially reduced sensation of pain). Moreover I never knew it is being actively practices by so many professional groups in medical practice including physician, dentists, nurses, social workers…I thought it was a sole domain of practice for clinical psychologists and psychiatrists.

After watching vedios I understand what Keith Barry did was not hypnosis for sure because that did not fit the definition of hypnosis. However, I cannot comment whether it was tricks, especially the one he claimed to psychokinesis was quite interesting. My sense is these were all tricks.
