Question
In light of the over 500 people who were shot by one gunman within 9 minutes, in Las Vegas, do you believe there should be stricter gun control laws to safeguard the public?Should there be more rules to govern control of guns? If so, in what way can we have safer streets in America?! Feel free to to reflect upon gun proposals offered by President Obama and Bill Clinton. Do you believe the National Rifle Association (NRA) is a threat to achieving gun control law? If so, why? Should automatic assault weapons be banned and made illegal for non-military personnel? Las Vegas shooting
In the Las Vegas shooting, there was a massive attack carried by a single person, on a crowd where there were concert goers, in which 58 people were killed and 489 people were injured. The attack was carried out by a 64 year old man, Stephen Paddock. The person had fired 500 rifle rounds, and the firing stopped after about an hour and he shot himself. There Were 23 firearms , with a huge amount of ammunition and a number of high capacity magazines were found. There were AR-15 variants, that had been manufactured by FN Herstal, Daniel Defense, as well as Lewis machine and tool company. Along with this he also had Kalashnikov pattern rifles.
Yes, I believe that there requires to be stricter gun control laws in order to safeguard the public. The government argues that “new laws wont stop a madman”. But “will curtail the freedoms of law abiding citizens”, is not justified. This doesn’t mean that giving such a free hand to citizens will let them be law abiding. As of now, the motive of Stephen Paddock is not known. Nobody known why he launched the attack. Then why should Such liberty been given to citizens? The government cannot guarantee when which citizen would go lunatic and carry out such crimes. As one of the recent interviews, even his girlfriend wasn’t aware of the fact that he was planning such an attack. This is obviously an attack that has been calculated and planned since a good amount of time. Moreover the NRA is supporting the fact that the government is not bringing any changes in the gun control laws.
The NRA has been a very influential body on the type of laws that would be imposed in the states. The NRA first supported the federal assault weapons ban, which was later withdrawn. The NRA has opposed most of the acts that have tried to pose any kinds of regulations on usage of weapons and their free distribution. Yes, NRA is posing a threat to gun control laws. Automatic assault weapons should only be allowed for military personnel.
