I believe that if memories are repressed that when they are recalled they are more valid the shorter the length of that memory or experience was. The reason that I believe this is because in the book it says that attention allows us to encode memory. The longer you are paying attention to something, the less you pay attention to all of the details within that memory because you start to lose focus after awhile. Therefore, this would mean that if a long repressed memory is recalled that it wouldn't be as valid as someone recalling a short memory. I know that I have memories that I remember over and over again and I always seem to remember them the same but typically those memories are the ones that lasted a brief second. Other times I remember things that I would call a memory, but I seem to remember it a little differently each time or there are parts of that memory that I try to figure out because I only remember certain things about that memory. The memories that I recall like this are always longer memories that I had. However, just because a memory is shorter and you may recall it more accurately than a longer memory does not mean that it is 100% valid because you could be forgetting the noises in the background or every detail that you saw during that actual experience. There is a lot to pay attention to if you are trying to recall a memory 100% accurately. Sometimes you can get more caught up in a moment and tune out the background sounds that were also a part of that memory for it to be truly 100% valid.
Explanation / Answer
1. The first sentence seems slightly confusing to me. Since it’s the introduction, it would be better if you could elaborate a bit more about what your essay is about.
2. You mentioned ‘in the book it says that’. Name the book.
3. “Therefore, this would mean that if a long repressed memory is recalled, then it wouldn't be as valid as someone recalling a short memory” (Probably made a typo there)
4. Add a conclusion.
