Our society is heteronormative. Pay attention to what happens at school, at work, at home, on TV, and online for a day or two. Use examples from one of these areas to explain how heterosexuality is normalized in daily life.

Heterosexism occurs around ALL of us every day so pay attention and find an example to use. Saying it doesn’t happen is not an adequate answer to this question because it IS happening. Pay attention and provide a specific example and make direct connections to the the readings and lecture notes.

Explanation / Answer

Yes, our society is majorly heterose-xual. In most of the TV series that we see, we find only male-female se-xual depictions. Moreover, if there are cases where a male to male or female to femal encounters are shown, they are either shown to be hidden from the society, carried out in secrecy, or masked with another relationship, that is "legitimate" in the eyes of the society. Or, being Homo is mostly a factor of mockery. For example in the TV series Friends, we have only seen hetero couples, three of them. Also, there has been shown strong aversion in the name of G-ay couples, especially by all of the male members- Joey , chandler and Ross with constant mockery.

Though a very old tv series, but this still depicts one of image of how society is oriented. Though society has been transformed in the present situation, there is no complete acceptance of Homose-xuality and open ness about the same has come in the form of revolts and not a normal topic.
