In the article ‘The Relation of Negative Career Thoughts to Depression and Hopelessness’ the authors Dieringer, Lenz, Hayden, & Peterson studied undergraduate students seeking career counselling services at a university career canter. The key point the authors make in this article is negative career thinking, and decision-making confusion, and commitment anxiety were positively associated with depression and feeling of hopelessness. The authors operationalized the depression in terms of Beck’s model of which suggest that depression is the outcome of three cognitive patterns that lead the person to view themselves, world, and future in negative manner. These three psychological focus called negative triad have further implications for negative feelings and behaviours.
