Explanation / Answer

This story shows us the how different types of people react to adversity, and how sometimes crises can bring out the worst in people. No matter how hard the circumstances, everyone eventually learns to care for themselves.

When all is fine, and circumstances are ideal, it is easy to get along with everyone and be your best, however tough times are those that truly test one's chracter. As we can see from the story, when the drought passed over the land, all the groups of people eventually learned to survive this difficult phase, whether through searching and gathering for food, or through harming others. In the case of the Dooligahs, their survival instinct was stronger than any other, and thus when the hunger became too much to bear, they resorted to feeding on the children of the D'harawal.

However in this entire story, the smartest group of people turned out to be the tiny Kuritjah's, who instead of resorting to violence, knowing very well that it would do nothing but harm, decided to take matters into their own hands, and use their intelligence and keep the other two groups seperately so as to avoid war. Overall, this is a very interesting story and has a lot of insight to offer.
