(Generally, they prefer to work in sexy areas such as finance, marketing, and sales.) Interestingly, a key thrust of business process reengineering has been to focus on making dramatic improvements in the operations areas of business, because operations lie at the heart of most enterprises. Explain how poor, neglected “operations” is in fact the ugly duckling that can mature into a swan. How can companies that neglect their operations find themselves in serious trouble? Explanation / Answer

Operations is the creattion of goods and services. It is the most vital part of the business growth. Any other function be it finance, marketing, sales can only bring fruitful results if operations are managed properly. Operations include all the functions like creation, production, distribution, inventor control, quality control, logistics etc. It is the process of converting inputs into outputs. They involve internal and external functions that lead to productivity and form a base for growth of the business in long term. It is like the root of the functions of the business that will lead to its profitability.

Any mismanagment or negligence in any of the operations functions will effect the productivity and profitability adversly. Hence understanding the importance of operations in a business and managing it well through different innovative approaches and startegies is imporant for any organization.
