Dear Parents
This letter is to update you that we are conducting a special training program for teaching empathy skills to all the junior schools students. I would want to provide you with little more details about this program in terms of training objectives, methods of teaching, reasons, goals of child development, and expectations from you in facilitating the objectives of this program.
Meaning of Empathy: Empathy means an ability to understand and feel what the other person is experiencing and looking at things from perspective of another person. This very critical social skill facilitate harmonious relationships and satisfactory interpersonal exchanges.
Objectives of Program: To enhance the empathy skills in children through systematic training intervention. It has been scientifically shown that empathy skills are not fixed by inheritance and these skills can be improved by training.
Methods of Training: Role Modelling, Using Stories Video Clips to demonstrate and discuss example of empathy in various social situations
Reason for Teaching: Empathy skills are critical social skills that fosters children’s practical and moral development. With improved empathy skills children are expected to develop various social and interpersonal competencies which otherwise gets missed in general academic curriculum.
Expectation from Parents: Children will often be assigned practical social tasks to test and learn empathy by social feedback. Therefore, you can expect you child often trying to make sense of your mental states and thinking at various point in family interactions. You are expected to support your child by providing sincere feedbacks and encourage continuing doing the same in future even if they fail to take your perspective and do not recognise your true feeling. Remember they are learning to do this.
Finally, I would be happy to answer any other query regarding this program form your side and expect your support for the development of your child.
Sincerely
ABC
