Question

Module 7; Section Two. The D'harawals recognised the importance of Eucalypts to structure and health of the environment. Firstly, the upward turning branches catch the rain as it falls and direct it over the bark of the trunk. As the rainwater runs over the bark it mixes with a saponin produced by the tree, this allows the rainwater to immediately soak into the soil, and thence into the groundwater system. This has two effects, firstly it lessens erosion, and sccondly it replenishes the groundwater system. Another example of the usefulness of Eucalypts is that of their effect on the medicinal quality of many of the plants growing close by. They produce, or harbour, a microrhizal fungus within their sap. This tiny fungus is accumulated in the leaves, which, when they fall and decompose on the woodland floor, is freed, and migrates to the roots of the various plants growing in the shelter of the Eucalypt. There, it attaches itself to the roots, and assists in the uptake of the nutrients necessary the enhance the medicinal quality of that plant.

Explanation / Answer

The moral of the story is that even though there are some people in the world who carry our activities that result in destruction of peace, there are always people who’ve kept the integrity and dignity of a place by resisting the forces with greater vigour. Just like the peace keepers and peace makers are known to protect the lands from any of the evil spirits who are trying to destroy them.
