Question

Greetings everyone, I do not understand the concept of "NET" fluid movement as wasdiscussed in the fluid exchange in the capillaries lecture Iread. What does "net" mean in biology? Any other examples you maygive to simplify this concept? For example, if there is a lot ofsalt inside a cell, would the net fluid movement be inside thecell? Any other examples in terms of the capillaries? May someone simplify this concept for me and I will ratelifesaver. Explanation / Answer

Now lets do the salt - I would not recommend doing this butyou may know what happens if you put salt on a slug - it draws thewater out - this is because water will go to where there is moresalt. So in a capillary next to a cell with a lot of salt, the NET fluid movement would be into the cell. Does this meanthat EVERY water droplet is going into the cell and NONE is goingfrom the cell into the capillary...no! However, more water isgoing from the capillary into the cell than from the cell into thecapillary so the NET movement would be, just like the building,INTO the cell.
Hope that helps.
