You are now the team leader of the company’s network monitoring group. A problem in your group is that personnel performance is erratic, and personnel complain of either having too little to do (work / information underload) or too much to do (work / information overload). What do you propose to improve the situation based on work / information underload /overload research including the Yerkes-Dodson Law?
You are now the team leader of tha company's network monitoring group. “The Yerkes-Dodson law suggests that performance and arousal are directly related.” The theory discusses the increase in arousal to an optimum level to get a great performance. The law was propounded in 1908 by Robert Yerkes and John Dodson.
As a Team leader I would address the problem of the network monitoring group by developing a strategy using the Yerkes-Dodson law as follows:
Summary of the problem: Two type of personnel in the team are people having too much work/information load and personnel having too little work or information load. The end result is poor and erratic performance.
Action Plan:
I will restructure the team working taking into consideration the four influencers discussed by Yerkes and Dodson namely skills set, personality, trait anxiety, and trait complexity.
To sum it up I will address the skill sets, personality development, increase motivation, and enhance the performance of the team.
