Explanation / Answer
1. Identify 3 main points that you have found interesting. Briefly describe each one of the main points, then add your opinion about each of these identified points.
There are various points that caught my attention. The first point is numerous children in America, millions in number are being identified with ADHD and being subjected to to heavy psychotic drugs from ages as early as 3 or 4. There are times when being subjected to such medications result in development of diseases such as depression and diabetes.
The doctors do not hesitate to give medicines to the children at such young age. Also, they claim that 99% cure can only be done by medicines and not any other care.
Even more, parents are such worried, that if the child is hyperactive and and has a vivid imagination, then there might be something wrong with the child and go to the doctor.
2. Do you agree or disagree with the point being made on the video?
Frontline tries to identify the increase in the number of psychiatric cases that occur in America since the 1990s. Bipolar disorder, which was earlier identified in adults, is now being identified in children as early as 4 year old. The long term effects of these medications are not being identified and the psychtrists clqim that these treatments are simply gamble and nothing can be predicted.
3. What do you think is the most important message that is being communicated to you through this video discussion?
The most important message that is being conveyed in the video is that the diagnosis and use of heavy medications for such small children has increased drastically and turned into an abuse of such medications. Parents are frightened in the name of the worst scenarios that may happen to their children if not treated from this age and they comply to it being scared and for the welfare of their children. Scientific experiments are not completed for these drugs and complete rsearch and side effects are not even been known to the doctors or parents. Even some doctors claim that bipolar disorder can be prevented. That means, even before the patient actually shows symptoms he is to be put on such heavy medications.
4. How would you use this information?
I could use this information in educating more parents and telling them to not fall into the ADHD and bipolar disorder trap. It is important to spread awareness of what is known by us and try and reduce the number of such incidents and more children getting into serious psychological disorders.
