Chad continues to stay in school and is a B-minus student due to the procrastination aspect of his work ethic. He has been complaining lately about school and thinking about withdrawing. His comments about the teacher, the class, the work and his grades are starting to get annoying so his mom decides to only reinforce his verbal behavior every 5 minutes he talks to her without making a negative comment about school.

Explanation / Answer
In the given case scenario, chad has been described as a student who has the habit of completing his work at the last moment, by constant delaying or avoiding to do those assigned tasks. This work form of his has kept him as a B minus student. With his constant low marks, he seems to be disappointed with every aspect of the school, starting from class to teacher. Chad himself is disappointed of his constantly low marks, and according to him, if he keeps complaining and make negative statements about the school, it would help in making him feel good about himself. Though, his mother realises that this behaviour is wrong and wants to reinforce the behaviour of not talking negative about the school at an interval of 5 minutes.
The method employed by the mother is differential reinforcement of other behavior. Chad does not take responsibility of his procrastination, but his mother realises it. Instead of pointing out the same to her, she wants to reduce Chad saying negative comments about the school and this she does after every five minutes in an attempt to decrease negative perspective about school, thus reinforcing other behaviour.
