Explanation / Answer

Historiography

Historiography has been defined as the study of various perspectives of history. Thus, we look at this topic in more than one view.

Was Conflict Between Europeans and Native Americans Inevitable

To understand this, we need to look at more than one perspectives. These two authors have given their own views about the topic. In The Columbian Exchange, Native Americans and the Land, Nature Transformed, TeacherServe, National Humanities Center, the author has merely provided evidences of how culturally different they are. The author says, ".....but Europe had nothing like the rattlesnake nor North America anything like the humped camel." Here, the statement precedes by a but. The author says, that even when there were certain similarities between the two cultures and they could co-exist, but there were acceptance of the differences between the two groups had never occurred. As for example, the American buffalo, which is also a bison, was considered different from the European bison.

In the article, The House of Burgesses, the author establishes background and the reason why the Europeans looked into the search of the new world. The author says, that there was major expansion going on in England, which resulted in conflicts and difference of opinion amongst people. These differences were mainly religious and in order to make a religion that would abide by their laws. The author writes, ".......each group decided that England was no place to put their controversial beliefs into practice. Where else but in the New World could such a golden opportunity be found? The land was unspoiled. Children could be raised without the corruption of old English religious ideas."

If we would want to draw a line on which one of the reasons led to the In flow of the Europeans in America and why the conflicts were inevitable, then it would be hard to justify. Both these authors provide their own views based on different perspectives of the event that has happened and these perspectives, as a whole, provide us with a comprehensive account of such differences.
