Question
INSTRUCTIONS:
Scientific Revolution changed our comprehension of the Universe: There are no two separate domains, the imperfect Earthly and the perfect, divine, Heavenly domain. There is only one single physical Universe, and we can understand how it works. It works like a clockwork mechanism. The planets in the sky, just as the objects here on Earth, move following mathematical rules, the rules of physics, and we can calculate and predict the way they will behave. There is no more mystery...
INITIAL POST:
A - Start your post by summarizing in a single sentence, the change that the mechanistic view of the Universe brought to the way God and his role in the Universe were perceived. It is clearly explained in the Disenchanting of the Universe text. DO NOT discuss anything else, such as our new perception of Earth's place in the Universe.
B - Give me your opinion about the relationship of science and religion today. Can one "believe" in both? Do they exclude each other or not? Give me your opinions and thoughts, and support all of them with solid arguments and examples.
Explanation / Answer
A: The change that mechanistic view of the universe brought to the way God and His role in the universe were perceived was that now the events on the Earth were considered as a result of mere manifestations of the mechanical laws of nature rather than due to any Godly intervention.
B: Science should be done in the light of religion as a man who is not at war with God is rightly guided with a clear and undisturbed mind to do objective scientific research. With a belief in God, a scientific researcher is free from all fears of life and biases so he is more rational and objective to do good Science.
