Meeting with all departmental managers to explain the store's pricing and promotional strategy for the next 'End of season sale'. She told all managers to inform employees of the agreed price reductions and the way in which goods should be presented. 2. Attending a planning meeting with executives from head office to agree the 12-monthly sales targets for the store. Rebecca explained that the opening of a competitor's store nearby was a factor that should be taken into account. 3. Presenting three shop workers with 'Reach for the stars' badges for outstanding sales records over the last month. She had her picture taken with them for publication in the store's internal newspaper 4. Reviewing the poor performance of the electrical products division with the manager. The different management functions fulfilled by Rebecca throughout the day were:-
• Planning –Planning is one of the essential functions performed by a manager and involves setting the course of action that the manager needs to take to achieve the organisational objectives. For example, Rebecca attended a planning meeting where she established the sales target for the next 12 months.
• Controlling – As a manager, it was her responsibility to monitor the performance of her team. For example, her instructions to the managers to inform the employee how the prices should be reduced and presented to the customers.
• Organizing - As an organizer, she was responsible for the planning and execution of the End of season sale.
• Commanding- Managers are responsible for instructing and controlling subordinates to achieve the goals of the organisation as done by Rebecca for the Sale.
• Communicating and Employee Motivation – Rebeca held a meeting with the electrical products division to catch up with the reasons for their poor performance and depending on the inputs received from them suggested a corrective course of action and at the same time helped motivate by arranging for training for underperforming employees.
• Measuring Performance – is one of the other aspects which a manager has to perform in order to understand how each employee was helping to meet the company’s objectives in this case Rebecca gave award to the high performing employees and helped in arranging for training session for employee who were not able to perform to the best of their abilities.
