The perceptions about growing older into older adulthood often don't match the realities of being an older adult. For this assignment explain some of the myths regarding older adults and some of the realities they often face. Put special emphasis on the social-economic and the physical factors that you have found in your readings and research on this topic. Based on your experiences how would you interpret these myths and realities of older adults? Make sure to justify your answers by citing relevant sources.

Explanation / Answer

Topic--"The perceptions about growing older into older adulthood often does not match the realities of being an older adult".

Various factors are involved in the study of the effects of old age and getting into adulthood like self realisation of goals, perception about career progress in life, mental state and attitude, upbringing in proper environment and in a high socio-economic status families, good funding and investment in old age. These aspects are studied in a statistical survey of a group of people entering old age and adulthood from middle age or from just the beginning of old age. The old people are more often alone, indepedent, without support from their children, have less financial and health support from friends, family children and relatives and they mostly live together in isolated places for example in old age homes away from their families with no financial security.

Further experimental analysis and testing with survey is done in old people as they approach adulthood along with routine medical checkup of their blood pressure, sugar and retention of memory tests.Other tests include their ability to write, speak languages, and understand languages in old age, memory retention test, sharpness test, locomoter-hand, legs coordination testing and cardiovascular heart testing.

Various groups of old people were clustered as positive health and thinking people with negative and ill health old patients and analysis were done on their behavior and way of living in old age homes.

In most of the scenarios the old people are victims of family abuse from their children, have less or no funds in old age to take care of themselves so are confined to old age homes with appropriate care from nurses and doctors. The funding is provided by their children just for the sake of living in old age but they do not have love ,care, affection and respect from their children, their friends and relatives.
