See page 406 of your chapter for a detailed description of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

2) Provide at least 2 examples of individuals/groups of individuals who are clear exceptions to the structure of the hierarchy. For example, soldiers may sacrifice their safety needs for their self-transcendence needs. Provide a few sentences to explain why your examples represent exceptions to the hierarchy.
Explanation / Answer
1)People who are high achievers in life do require self actualization needs and transcendence needs, since they have reached their peak in their professional lives and using their complete potential to build a business empire. They work for finding creativity in their work and they work for posterity.Moving beyond their potential, trying to better their talent, find new opportunities to be creative and cosntruct something valuable like a piece of art or a book, which people can remember them by. Now,at this stage when they have everything in term of money and success, they feel like giving it back to the society through social work and working towards the welfare of people. That is why highe achievers like businessmen, celebrities etc. engage in a lot of social welfare programs and work with charities,to raise awareness about various social issues. People including teenagers and young adults, consider love/belongingness needs and self esteem needs to be important. They are young and discovering themselves, relationships involving romantic or friendship ones, become important,as well as figuring out one's career choices, being independent, having a good job and making something out of life. Also, the desire to be respected by others and valued by others for one's achievements. Working adults value security needs a lot, since at this stage, earning money becomes extremely important to financially support ones family.Personal security and family security becomes a priority, working towards building a house, having a comfortable life, health insurance etc. all are important. Physiological needs are definitely important to all of us,including the poor people, possibly more for them than any other need.We all want food, shelter, water etc. to live a life and we all work towards it all our lives. For poor people,it becomes more important due to lack of resources and opportunities because of which they can afford bare minimum. Due to time limit, remaining can be asked as another question, they will be answered, thankyou for your cooperation.
