Question
Write ONE proposal for behavior change. This could be a behavior change for yourself or someone else (friend, family member, etc.). The behavior change program should incorporate and specify at least two basic principles of behavior (e.g., reinforcement, punishment, stimulus control, prompting, etc). You may elect to increase/decrease the frequency of an existing behavior, establish a new behavior, or some combination. It will also be important to incorporate examples when designing your behavior change program (I.e., describe the experimental design you would use to test if your treatment were responsible for changes). Proposals should be 2-3 pages, typed and double spaced. The proposal should include an introduction describing the behavior, the person involved and a rationale for changing the behavior, response definitions, response measurement, and the behavior change strategies that would be used.

Explanation / Answer
The example of change in behavior includes a study conducted by Lester Coch and John R.P French Junior in a clothing garment factory. It also includes the resistance in the behavior of working persons according to the business situation in the factory. The research was conducted on a group of four industry workers and factory operators who were payed on cloth derived and manufactured per unit basis. It included the analysis of degree of cohesiveness and efficiency of working operations among the workers of factory. The first group was a no-participation method where the workers were called in a room and given some rules and regulations to change their work strategy according to the implementation of these points by some staff members. The second group includes the work and representation group both during the manufacturing and processing of cloth in the industry. The third and fourth group included the complete participation of the workers and staff members in the manufacturing of cloth on machines. It included the need of cost reduction with less price of cloth manufactured per piece with total discontinuation of the methods which demanded high costs and more effort and load. The output of group-1 was reduced as compared to the other groups which included collective work from the staff members along with the workers who were manufacturing the cloth. This continued for about one month after the implementation of new rules. Resistance in attitude and behavior occured with reduction in the prices of cloth manufacturing. The behavior of the workers changed and they developed a hostile attitude towards the supervisor and other engineers with stopping of work and lack of cooperation among members. The behavior of workers in the total participation group did not change much as compared to non-participation group members. The example includes an interaction between an engineer and an operator who were given the project on installation of parts with cleaning them before use and installation in the machinary. The other example includes a meeting with a second engineer who brought new modified parts for the functioning of the machine but the operator reported that the new parts were not working effciently in the machine after installation in the cloth manufacturing machine. The behavior change strategies include the analysis of careless installation of new parts by the operator, effective time should be given for the effective functioning of the machine. The concept of self-preoccupation of work problems should be reduced with analysis of the problems and should be handled accordingly.
