Explanation / Answer

Affluenza is defined as an epidemic of stress, overwork, waste and indebtedness caused by an unrealistic pursuit of the American Dream. It is an unsustainable addiction to economic growth and the urgent need to keep up with the other more influential (rich) people in one's social circle.

Thoughts on the program:

In the pursuit of achieving a lavish lifestyle, people tend to forget the actual 'living' part. There is a lot of work-related stress, personal stress, lack of contact with family members, increasing debt and an ever-widening gap between the rich and the poor that is being discussed in the different parts of the documentaries. It takes us through the lives of many people who lead a simple life as opposed to the people suffering from 'affluenza'. It redefines simple living and encourages the viewers to practice consciousness on the level of waste generated and the loss of humanity in the process of running behind the American Dream.
