Ans

The Maslow theory of self actualisation was first theory to explain self actualisation which consider it as becoming more and more of what one actually capable of.

While Rogers fully functional person is also about becoming closer and closer to ideal self. This is achieved when self image become more and more equal to ideal self.

The two theories appears same on assumption that individuals following way to achieve self actualization.

They both agree that basic needs such as survival needs have to be satisfied first before an individual can achieve self actualization.

They are on same page of considering being accepted is prefered over self actualisation.

However they differ in what they focus after defining self actualization.

Maslow focuses on understanding the character of self actualised individual while Rogers not only looked at the characteristics but also considered the ways to achieve self actualization and developing therapy to overcome obstacles that might restrict individuals from becoming fully functional person.

Maslow garnered support for his theory by examining several successful person like Einstein who were self actualised and found that self actualized people apperared to share similar traits.

Maslow estimated only 1 % of individuals are motivated in becoming self actualised.

However rogers is of the view that everyone is capable of becoming self actualized.

The thing that are creating obstacle is being fixated on conditions of worth.

His therapy removes these obstacles from his clients so they can continue on the route to becoming self actualised and fully functional person.
