A) If i were a police chief, than i would organize my department to pursue a hybrid of the two approach, that is.... zero tolerance approach & community-oriented policing approach. In Zero tolerance approach, there is a strict law and enforcement implementation in the society to reduce the crime rate to minimum. Zero tolerance” will be incorporated into a larger plan that includes screening and extensive training for officers, as well as teaching the important skill of de-escalation as a first approach in all matters involving the public unless an imminent danger exists. Ultimately, “zero tolerance” is a position that is meant to be mutually beneficial both to the public as well as to all law enforcement officials and agents. Community-oriented policing approach Community-based policing or community-oriented policing is an organizational strategy that allows the police and the community to work together to solve problems of crime, disorder and safety issues and to improve the quality of life for everyone in that community. Experience SHOWS that when communities play a key role in defining their own security and safety needs and are involved in planning, implementing and monitoring locally-defined solutions to their problems, community safety and security improves considerably. Community-based policing requires police departments to organize their management, structure, personnel, and information systems in a manner that supports partnerships with advocates and other community members and proactive problem-solving focused on survivor safety. Key priorities to ensure community-based policing improves prevention and response to violence against women include. Community policing involves decision-making processes that are more open than traditional policing. If the community is to be a full partner, the department needs mechanisms for readily sharing relevant information on crime and social disorder problems and police operations with the community. The principles of community policing need to be infused throughout the entire personnel system of an agency, including recruitment, hiring, selection, and retention of all law enforcement agency staff, from sworn officers to civilians and volunteers. Personnel evaluations, supervision, and training must also be aligned with the agencies’ community policing views. By following both approach the crime rate will definately reduce, because now community is playing an important role to work with it, there would be no tension between my strategy and the level of legitimacy and trust I have with the community I seek to serve.
