Question
It has been noted that the overwhelming majority of research papers published in psychology and sexuality focus on the negative aspects of sexuality (e.g., teenage pregnancy, disease), and despite a movement in psychology to focus on the positive and on research that enhances happiness and well-being, very little sexuality research does this. Based upon the textbook readings and/or other appropriate scholarly source explain why this is such a persistent trend in sexuality research. Also, feel free to share your own thoughts on why this might be so.
Explanation / Answer
Normally, when everything goes alright people seldom notice it but almost all the research focused on the negative side of sexuality because one of the most important aspects of the research is to study something and suggest improvement. So, most of the positive elements of sexuality were portrayed in the movies and other media. Social sciences study the deficiencies and try to improve people’s lives by suggesting better ways of doing things. But, there is a change coming into the research world that people have started study the positive aspects of sexuality. One of the main reason for this is that most of the elements that are connected to sexuality were not accepted by the society but today, almost everything is becoming quite normal and socially acceptable.
