There has been much debate surrounding whether intelligence level is inherent, meaning that individuals are born with a certain natural learning capability, or learned, meaning if that the environment determines intelligence and if it is favourable, individuals can attain a certain level of intelligence. However, we now know that both, heredity and the environment, play a role in intelligence. When we say that the capacity for intelligence is inherited, we mean to what extent individuals can develop their intellectual capacities with the help of the environment is genetically determined. In other words, heredity puts limits and boundaries within which intellectual development can take place.
