Question 10 30 pts The following short answer question is worth 30 points. Many cultural relativists believe that their view strongly supports the virtue of tolerance. They think that if we cannot say that any one culture's values are better or worse than any other's, then there is no basis for hate and hostility toward other cultures. Lewis Vaughn, the author of your text, makes 3 points against this view on p. 149. In your own words, briefly explain each of his these 3 points against cultural relativism. According to Lewis Vaughn cultural relativism is false as;
the diversity of moral views does not necessarily mean that morality is relative to cultures.
The alleged diversity of basic moral standards among cultures are not real it may be just only an apparent diversity.
Societies having conflict in moral judgments may differ not over moral principles but they may differ over nonmoral facts.
It is not necessary that there is a connection between tolerance and the doctrine. Indeed, the cultural relativism while maintaining his relativist standpoint cannot consistently advocate tolerance.
