ESSAY QUESTION

Chad is a collegiate lacrosse player in Arizona. During preseason and in-season training, the team will practice for hours, often in 80-to 90-degree weather. The coach incorporates fluid breaks during practice; however, he allows the athletes to consume only water. The coach believes that sports beverages hinder performance and therefore forbids the athletes to consume them. The athletes complain of feeling fatigued, lethargic, and light-headed by the end of practices.

1. What are the problems in this scenario?

2. What should the athletes do to feel better throughout the duration of their practice?

Explanation / Answer

Ans 1...They r practicing so it's obvious that glucose is being consumed by their body cells.they r taking only water from outside and no source of glucose which can replenish the glucose levels so ultimately the blood glucose level will decrease and their will be less glucose available for muscle and brain to function that's why they will feel lethargic and light headed

Moreover during exercise their is anaerobic respiration which produces less energy and produces lactic acid which is also responsible for lethargy

Ans 2...They should consume some source of glucose to replenish their depleted glucose level for example they can take glucon D in water for the same.
