The students in the back seat were wearing seat belts but they still sustained bruises around the abdomen and had some internal organ injuries. Why is this area more vulnerable to damage than others ?Explanation / Answer
The abdominal region houses a large number of internal organs such as stomach, pancreas, liver, spleen, small intestine and large intestine. These organs are muscular in nature and are not composed of any bony structure. This is in comparison to the cardiovascular system which is encased by strong protective structures such as rib cages. So, they are least protected and hence are most succeptible to damage when met with any accident. This is why the students in the back seat still sustained bruises around the abdomen and had some internal organ injuries inspite of wearing seat belts.
