Exercise & Science 231:
1.) Medical Clearance and Initial Intensity Permitted Discussion
Describe how you determined if the client needs medical clearance, and how you determined that they can participate in moderate or vigorous exercise now. If medical clearance is recommended, you need to discuss this asap with the instructor. If medical clearance is recommended do not perform exercise-based fitness testing prior to talking to the instructor.
2.) Other Limiting Factors Discussed
If there is anything that may limit the types of activities or intensity of activities not previously discussed (e.g. injuries, diseases, or medications that affect exercise), discuss it here. If yes, you need to discuss this asap with the instructor. If yes, do not perform exercise based fitness testing prior to talking to the instructor.
Explanation / Answer
1) The need of medical clearance in a client can be determined by reviewing their medical history. Preactivity screening questionnaire is used to determine if any of the three big chronic disease (cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic) are present. Risk factor assessment and risk stratification should be done for men above 40 and women above 50 years of age. Other people like those suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, joint problems, neurologic problems, poor circulation, lung disease, or any other significant chronic medical condition.
2) The factors that may limit the type and intensity of activities include chest pains, palpitations, dizziness, fainting spells, headaches, frequent urination, or any unusual symptoms particularly during exertion.
