Question

Effect of Sucrose Concentration on Sucrase Activity Glucose (O.D. units) 0.8 0.6 0.4 0.2 0 0 15 20 25 30 35 5. State how sucrase activity changes with increasing sucrose concentration. Was the rate of increase of sucrase activity greater when sucrose concentration went from 2.5 to 7.5 g/l or when it went from 22.5 to 27.5 g/? 6. Discussion pH Along the GI Tract Organ mouth stomach duodenum jejuneum first section of small intestine) (second section of small intestine) (third section of small intestine) lleum colon pH 6.356.85·11-3 7.5 7.5 7.5-8

Explanation / Answer

Answer 5. there is some what linear relationship between sucrose and sucrase function to some extent. But at higher concentration of sucrose the activity of sucrase become constant due to saturation of all substrate binding sites of enzyme sucrase.

Answer 6. As it is clear from the graph Sucrase activity is greater at the sucrose concentration reaches 2.5 to 7.5 g/l. This is because at lower concentration more substrate binding sites are available for binding of sucrose.

Discussion answer 1. Sucrase is found in small intestine so optimal pH for sucrase activity will be intestinal pH which is around 6 to 7.5. At this optimal pH sucrase break the sucrose in the glucose molecules.

Answer 2. The optimal temperature for sucrase activity is 37° Celsius. At this body temperature the activities of sucrase is maximum.
