Question

i need a discussion reponse to my peers discussion post. I need to add something to the discussion and comment on there post

1)      List one example of a personality test often used by Human Resources Departments.

One example of a personality test that Human Resources Departments use is the Big Five factors. Our text explains that the Big Five are used to describe the behavioral traits, they measure the individuals personality traits (Heneman III, Judge, Kammeyer-Mueller, 2015, p. 425) Our text also list the examples of the Big Five factors such as extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness to experience(Heneman III, Judge, Kammeyer-Mueller, 2015, p. 426)

2)      Do you think this is a sound recruiting technique? Explain why it is --or not.

I think personality tests is a sound recruiting technique but, it has its advantages and disadvantages towards selecting the right candidate. Researchers have shown that the advantage of having a personality test show more of a positive conclusion in predicting job performance(Heneman III, Judge, Kammeyer-Mueller, 2015, p. 425). Another advantage of having a personality test is that it may lower employee turnover if they can match the candidate’s traits to those of the job description (Bell, 2015).

A disadvantage of personality test is most of them are now being done online. Our text explains to us that there are three problems with an online personality test that include test security might be compromised, applicants may find it easier to cheat or be more motivated to cheat online, and applicants may not tolerate long online personality tests(Heneman III, Judge, Kammeyer-Mueller, 2015, p. 426). Also the disadvantage of a personality test is that candidates will answer the test attempting to please the interviewer and not being truthful; causing to discredit the test (Bell, 2015).

3) Have you ever had to take a personality test at time of hiring? If so, how was your experience. If not, did you wish you could have taken one to prove that you could do the job well?

At my current job when I returned to PNC Bank they didn't require me to take a personality test. I actually had to take one last month because we are transitioning from my current position to another position that required a personality test. One of the experiences that I can relate to the reading was that the personality test was long and boring. Some of the questions I thought had no ground to be on there and some of them didn't relate to the business. I also felt that some of the questions were repetitive but I wasn't sure if it was on purpose to realize if the candidate was answering truthfully. Although though it was a personality test, they also had ethical behavior questions to test for integrity and honest behavior in a workplace context. I understand why organizations give applicants these personality tests but I don’t consider it the most efficient method to selecting candidate’s.

Explanation / Answer

In this context I partially agree with my friend that it is better to take personality tests because the employee turn over can be maintained but job performance is something that cannot be evaluated greatly in this context because I believe that the personality will not have a huge affect in the performance. Again, even if the test is conducted online I don't feel that there actually is a need to cheat because if we look at the personality test questions, we will understand that there is no correct answer and the answers provided are analyzed and the personality of the individual is determined to some extent. The questions were repetitive because that is the strategy, by asking the same question in a bit different manner more than once should not change the and and if it gets changes then there is another perspective of judging the personality of an individual. I believe that personality tests are important and it should be present in the recruitment process.
