Question

Please complete the reading for this week and view the PowerPoint. Our book is outdated on a few things, but we knew that. Most obviously though, related to the most recent drugs released by the FDA. Please review the cite CenterWatch (Link (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.) to find where current clinical trials are being conducted and an up-to-date list of newly FDA approved medications.

Please review ALL of the following links, but base your original post on ONLY ONE. As a group, please make sure that all three topics are explored. (I have opened the discussion so you can see each others' posts to prevent duplication/and promote covering all topics.)

DiSCUSSION: Please review the following articles/videos (remember, you only need to post on ONE question so please be thorough):

1. What was the Human Genome Project and what are their implication to healthcare currently & in the future?

2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of computers in drug trials?

3. Wall Street Journal's article: Simulators help build better drug trials. This is significant because of how hard it is to get permission to trial a drug on humans. The statistics and numbers in this article are particularly interesting. WSJ.Rockford,J.Nov17,2013Simulators Help Build a Better Drug Trial.

Explanation / Answer

1). Human Genome Project (HGP) is one of the biggest genome projects completed. In this project, the whole human genome or DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is sequenced to identify all the genes.

Some of the animal genomes such as those that of the mouse, rats, drosophila, and others are also sequenced and mapped. This is important because these are all the animals used in the research. These animals are used to study the disease pathology and in the drug development. Also, humans contain certain unique set of genes that are necessary for intellectual functioning and the other unique characteristic of humans. However, sharing the genome with the all other species indicates that all living organisms arose from a common ancestor.

The future implications of the Human Genome Project are,
