Explanation / Answer

1. Atherosclerosis is known as hardening of the arteries. This is caused by the deposition of fat, cholesterol along the walls of the arteries. The depositions referred to as plaque and hence causes narrowing of the arteries. When blood is pumped through, the decrease in the surface area leads to more pressure with which the blood flows but the obstructions caused by the plaques eventually leads to the slow down of the blood velocity.
