Explanation / Answer
Question1- If the diagnosis is convergent strabismus, the cause might be:
A. dysfunction of an abducens nerve
B. paralysis of the medial rectus muscle
C. spastic contraction of a lateral rectus muscle
D. dysfuntion of an oculomotor nerve
E. spastic contraction of a superior rectus muscle
Answer A- dysfunction of an abducens nerve
sixth nerve or abducen nerve palsy causes Convergent Strabismus( Esotropia) due to unopposed action of medial rectus muscle.Sixth nerve supplies laternal rectus which causes abduction of eye, so if Paralysed then medial rectus muscle with unopposed adduction of eye, hence causing Convergent squint.
Question2 To reach the rods and cones in most parts of the retina, light must passs through all of the following except...
A. two different liquids in three different chambers of the eyeball
B. bulbar conjuntiva
C. a hole in the iris
D. the cornea and sclera
E. 8 other named layers of the retina
Answer B. bulbar conjuntiva
Bulbar conjuctiva covers the eye only uptil juction of sclera and cornea. it does not cover the cornea and light cannot pass through it.
