Question
The Skeleton Objectives: For each of the structures listed within the Supplemental Lab Manual, the students will be able to identify the purpose of each of the surface markings list bones of the axial and the appendicular skeletons describe the location of each of the following structures of the skeletal system locate the following structures on a skeleton differentiate if a paired bone is right or left differentiate cervical, thoracic and lumbar vertebrae differentiate the axis and atlas . e . e vebrosternal vertebrochondral and vertebral ribs differentiate the male and female pelvic girdle . SURFACE MARKINGS OF BONES: -1 Description: General Structure-Surface Marking: Articulating Surface Condyle Facet Head Trochlea Alveolus Fossa Depressions Sulcus (Sulci) Crest Projections for tendon and ligament Epicondyle attachement Line Process ine Trochanter Tubercle Tuberosity Fissure Foramen (Foramina) Meatus Sinus Openings Bones of the Axial Skeleton Bones of the Appendicular SkeletonExplanation / Answer
Condyle- round protuberance found at the end of the bone which helps in articulating with the other bone
Facet- the two vertebrae articulate with the help of a joint called facet.
Head- head of the bone primarily describes the proximal end of the bone which helps in articulating with the other bone
Trochlea- bony prominence which acts as a pulley over which tendons and nerves passes.
Alveolar- the depression which forms the rigde of socket over which the tooth are embedded.
Fossa- any depressed or hollow surface in the bone
Sulcus- depressions found in the brain
Crest- represents the ridge or raised surface of the skeleton
Epicondyle- bony prominence at the distal end of the bone
Line-anatomical lines drawn for location
Process- projection or outgrowth of tissue from a larger body.
Spine- prominent plate of the bone
Trochander- anatomical ridge found at the proximal aspect of the particular bone
Tubercle- a small rounded projection or protuberance, especially on a bone
Tuberosity- rounded prominence; especially : a large prominence on a bone usually serving for the attachment of muscles or ligaments
Fissure- fissure is the natural groove or deep furrow present in the bone
Foramen- represents any opening in the body
Meatus- passage or opening leading to interior of the bone.
Sinus- air cavities present in the bone.
Bone of the axial skeleton are
Skull, hyoid bone, ossicles, rib cage, vertebral column
Bone of appendicular skeleton are
