There are ample topics that are acceptable, from Hurricane Katrina to the Blackout of 2003(?), to Earthquake response domestically or overseas

The goal is to develop a document that critically exams what it is that went well and what went poorly during the response to a Crisis/Disaster.

Explanation / Answer

Hurricane Harvey made a landfall on Texas on 25 August,2017.It was categorised as type 4 storm. It damaged property worth $130 bn and affected 13million people. This natural disaster was 2nd largest devastating after Hurricane Katrina of 2005. It took life of 90 people, damaged 2million house and forced 1million people to live in shelter home. The Federal Govt and State Governments took swing action to deal with the calamity.

$15 bn provided as aid by Federal government. As soon as water receeds to some level volunters, civilgroups, disaster respone force etc took swing action and rush to help the affected people. People were kept in relief camp and proper food, water and medicine was provided to them so that they won't get affected to any disease that normally such storm brings. Government officials  focused their efforts on rebuilding public infrastructure and facilities, accommodating the efforts that were underway in the for-profit and nonprofit sectors without trying to direct them. State government of affected state provided relief material and waiver to hospitals which were damaged badly. The response was good at local level also who provided immense strength to deal with the wee hour of their life.

None of the disaster mitigation and response process is perfect. There is not any text book which can provided a guideline and by going on that guideline the relief and response work will be perfectly carried on. For respone to disaster like Harvey need co-ordination and cooperation among the level of goverment functionary,bureacucarcy, volunteers etc. There were some loopholes in respone to the crisis like speedy construction of public infrastructure, repair and restoration of communication medium, some of the affected people found it difficult to reach the releif camp, access to food etc. It should be noted that a perfect respone to disaster like Hurricane Harvey is impossible.
