Explanation / Answer

United States policy of containment was to prevent the spread of communism abroad. It is best known as cold war policy of United States. This policy was in response to series of moves taken by Soviet Union to increase communist influence in Eastern Europe, China, Korea, Africa, Latin America.

It was implemented in 1946 by U.S diplomat George F. Kenan during the administration of US President Harry S Truman. George F Kenan is known as Father of containment. It was implemented in two ways. One was military way by forming NATO and the other was by diplomatic and economic way by Marshall plan by helping Western Europe economically and by putting diplomatic pressure on Western Europe and asking them to be on side of US.

The cold war helped to create the CIA- Central Intelligence Agency and other Spy organisations in military. CIA and FBI- Federal Bureau of Investigation together began to spy the activities of KGB. KGB was the main security agency of Soviet Union.
