Question

INSTRUCTIONS: Review the 10 sets of terms related to the nervous system below. The terms in each set are similar to each other in structure and/or function (that is, they have at least 1 structural feature and/or function in common). The terms in each set are different from each other in structure and/or function (that is, they differ in at least 1 structural feature and/or function). Ch. 7 of your textbook will be your primary source of information. You may also refer to other chapters- use the index at the back of the book to locate information about each term. In addition to the textbook, students may use reliable websites to research information about the terms. If you use websites, remember to record the URL and other information required to be included in your citations COMPARE terms-how are they SIMILAR? Discuss 1 way in which the structures in each set of terms are SIMILAR in structure or function. Do this by writing 1 or 2 complete sentences which that the s both structures perform (physiology), Include a specific example to help illustrate your point CON set of terms are DIFFERENT from each other in structure or function. Do this by writing 1 or 2 complete sentences which describe one way that the structures differ structuraly (anatomy) or describe how the function of one structure differs from the function of the other structure (physiology). Include a specific example to help illustrate your point. Statements must be written such that concepts are concisely and accurately explained using complete sentences with correct spelling and grammar. HINT: Use the spell and grammar check functions in WORD to detect and correct any errors. T terms-how are they DIFFERENT? Discuss 1 way in which the structures in each If scientific terms are present in your statements. you must define them. Assume a person reading your work knows nothing about human A&P.; HINT: Read your sentences out loud to an adult and ask for feedback regarding whether your intended meaning is clear. Revise your answers if they are vague or if the meaning is unclear to the listener. See examples of unacceptable answ below. Answers that contain spelling errors, incomplete sentences, poor logic, inaccuracies, or are vague will not receive credit

Explanation / Answer

Answer 5. Somatic motor neuron: autonomic neuron

Similarity:- these both carry the motor signal to the effector organs.

Difference:- somatic motor neuron is controlled by brain whereas autonomic neuron is controlled by spinal cord.

Answer 6. Special senses: general senses

Similarity:- these both are sensory signal receptor present in the peripheral organs.

Difference:- special senses carry information of special sensory organs such as vision, olfaction etc. Whereas general senses carry information of skin etc.

Answer 7.. Central nervous system: peripheral nervous system

Similarity:- both are nervous system made up of neuron .

Differences:- central nervous system composed of brain and spinal cord whereas peripheral nervous system composed of nerves and ganglion outside the brain and spinal cord.

Answer 8. Dendrite: axon

Similarity:- both are projection of neurons and carry stimulus.

Difference:- dendrites carry stimulus to the cell body whereas axon carry information away from the cell body of neuron.

Answer 9. Cerebrospinal fluid: blood

Similarity:- both are plasma. CSF is filtered part of blood.

Difference:- CSF is fluid of the brain and spinal cord whereas blood is fluid of cardiovascular system. Blood carry oxygen whereas no oxygen is carried by CSF.

Answer 10. Sympathetic division of ANS: parasympathetic division of ANS

Similarity:- both are parts of autonomic nervous system and controlled by brain and spinal cord. Both uses neurotransmitters to show its action.

Differences:-sympathetic division prepare body to do intense physical activities whereas parasympathetic division relaxes the body.
