Question
28 years old man was presented to having fever and fatigue. He had difficulty breathing, headache and very unwell. However all bacteriology related work indicated no causative agent. The patient Igs levels were tested and there was a slightly elevated IgE level in addition to high levels of IgG. The patient showed no allergies to any of the agents in the allergy test. What other test you would do to determine the cause of the illness? Why would you take such a step? Why IgE levels are important in this case? Why IgE is referred to as the only harmful antibody? What does fever mean in general and why is it not looked at as a specific symptom? How could levels of Immunoglobulins assist in determine the type of antigen a person is infected with? Give examples of how levels of Igs can assist to determine the causative agent.(microbiology)
Explanation / Answer
IgE levels are raised in hypersensitivity reactionsa and parasitic infections.
Since there is no allergy to this pain.
Serological tests can be performed.
As we know there are few cases in which IgE level increase,thus knowing IgE levels makes the diagnosisore clear,as one of the options allergies has been ruled out by allergic test.
IgE antibody is normally low in blood,but if its level rises,it produces maladaptive immune responses which may be fatal to one's body.
Fever is sign of inflammation,it is generally produced by the body's immune response to any antigen encountered.it is not specific for any infection.When a body encouter any foriegn antigen than the self,fever is produced in response as temperature of the body increases.
Blood tests and serological tests reveals the levels of immunoglobulins which help in determining causative agent for example;
Parasitic infection
Certain cancers
Recurring infection due to low levels of antibodies
Autoimmune disorder.
