Explanation / Answer

2]  cells and ground substance

  extracellular matrix and protein fibers.

3] Option [b] simple cuboidal epithelium

Stratified epithelial cells consist of two or more layers of cells arranged on a basement membrane whereas simple epithelial cells consist of a single layer of cells. Cuboidal cells are rectangular and cube-shaped and columnar cells are elongated and taller than they are broad.

4] Pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium have cilia at their free, apical surface. Mucus-secreting unicellular gland cells, called goblet cells, lie among the ciliated cells. These epithelial cells form a lining in the lumen of the trachea.

Transitional epithelium is a type of stratified epithelial tissue which is made up of multiple layers of epithelial cells which can contract and expand as needed. Hence they provide a degree of distention to the organs where they are found eg they form the mucosal lining of the uterus, a portion of the urethra and the urinary bladder. This helps these organs to distend or expand if needed.

5] a] True [ adipose tissue contain fat droplets]

b] False [ the primary element is the densely packed collagen fibers which are arranged in parallel]

c] False [ the collagen fibers are arranged irregularly and not in parallel ]

d] True[ they are most common and holds organs in place and attaches epithelial tissues to other tissues. They include areolar, adipose and reticular tissues. Given their wide range of sructure and function, these tissues contain all three types of fibers.

e] True [ the matrix is mostly made of cartilage to give it tensile strength.

6] Option [b] bone tissue ECM consists of hydroxyapatite crystals and collagen fibers. They also contain osteocalcin, proteoglycans, osteonins and other organic substances to give it strength and endurance].

7] The characteristics that apply to skeletal muscles are -- a] striated, [c] multinucleate, and [f] voluntary

Visceral or involuntary muscles are uninucleate and unstriated.

Cardiac muscles are striated , multinucleate, contain intercalated discs and are autorhythmic.
