Communication is an important component of the organization which makes the work flow, information flow, coordination etc effective. In an organization there are formal as well as the informal communication networks. The formal networks include the mailing systems, LAN etc which makes the formal communication effective. But when considering the formal and the informal communication networks the effectiveness is more in the informal networks as serves the purpose of communication without any standards or guidelines.

Some of the informal communication networks functions are discussed here. Consider the personal networking in an organization which is a popular informal communication system. In the personal networking system the employees from the higher level to the lower level will be connected as a group. This group can be accessed either through a computer or through an iPhone. This networking enables the employees to share their opinion, ideas, etc to the group so that it can contribute towards the innovation. The information sharing is the major benefit of the informal communication as it can contribute to the personal and technological development of the employees.

This personal networking system would enable the people or the employees to get connected without considering the geographical or the time barriers. The employees can get help of his peers at any time and can enhance his performance. The implementation of the personal networking can also be considered as a best option for the employee engagement programs. This makes the employees engaged and update about the events and updates of the organization. Since it is not formal the fear of the employees to share and exhibit his opinion will be reduced and the employees can feel freedom of sharing. This enable the management to reduce the HR related issues.

Even though this networking is very beneficial, the management should be keen in monitoring the conversations of the personal networking. There will be situation where the employees can misutilize the personal networking system and this would the major drawback of the informal communication system.
