Case Study: Stacy is a 36-year-old married mother of three young children. She worked full time and had to drive over 80 miles one-way to work every day. She was recently involved in a bad car accident and is now too afraid to drive, is very anxious, and has frequent nightmares. After 6 months she sought professional help. After trauma or any accidents people feel frightened,but eventually recpver from such condition.But some people continue to feel stressed and frightened.
This is known as post traumatic stress disorder.
Symptoms include- frightening thoughts,bad thoughts,nightmares,flashbacks of any trauma.Person easily becomes irritated and angry,negative thougts,distorted feelings,loss of interest in any field,forgetting things etc.
This symptoms are felt by adults.
Children may suffer from above symptoms,but they develop disruptive,destructive changes.They do not talk to parents or adults,become scary again and again,start bedwetting.
Some children have anger issues worse than adults.
Risk factors include;
Any serious trauma with friend and family
Sexual assaults
Disaster events
Abuse
Physical Assaults etc
Treatment-
It include counselling called psychotherapy and medications.
Antidepressants are usually given.
Whereas counselling includes talking with psychiatrist who treat mental illness.
