POST LAB QUESTIONS: What is a major structural (anatomical) difference between arteries, capillaries and veins? 1. 2. What is a major functional (physiological) difference between arteries, capillaries and veins? 3. How does a blood vessel change the rate of blood flow? 4. Which branch of the autonomic nervous system changes the radlius of blood vessels? a. Sympathetic b. Parasympathetic c. Both sympathetic and parasympathetic s wouthe effec cpinephine on th fish tilti hod veseis be the same throughout the rest of 5. the body? Explain why or why not. 6. Why does the body release histamine? What purpose does it serve . A common, but inappropriate release of histamine occurs during a severe allergic reaction. Why might an acute, severe allergic reaction be fatal? Describe cause and effect related this lab and the information above. 16Explanation / Answer
1. Structural difference
Artries-they have thick elastic and muscular walls
Veins- they have thin with few elastic fibres.
Capillaries-they are tiny and thin walked to form network.
2. Functional difference
Arteries- they carry oxygenated blood towards different parts of body ( except pulmonary and umbilical artery)
Veins - they carry deoxygenated blood back towards heart ( except pulmonary and umbilical veins)
Capillaries-they carry blood away from body and exchange nutrients and oxygen with tissues.
3. The rate of blood flow depends on requirement of body which is regulated by vasoconstriction and vasodilation of smooth fibers in the walls of blood vessels mostly artries.
4.symphathic nervous system.
